Just so you know...

"Clinical research trials show laser treatment success being as high as 90% with multiple treatments, whereas current prescription therapies are about 50% effective." USF Health

don't suffer with toenail embarassment any longer

The first step is an appropriate diagnosis:

There are many causes for toenail changes including trauma, fungus, yeast, and bacterial infections. In most cases testing of the nail plate is recommended prior to initiating a treatment for a toenail condition. Verifying the cause of the nail changes increases the likelihood of appropriate therapies in effort to remedy the condition.

Microtrauma (Most Common)

Nail changes from microtrauma accumulate over time and cause a thick, painful and irregular nail. This is mostly untreatable.

Treatments include:

  • Nail Softener (Urea, Tea Tree Oil)
  • Temporary or Permanent Nail Removal
  • Pedicures

Fungal Infections (Common)

Treatment for nail fungus (onychomycosis) is usually targeted to the specific infecting organism. There are multiple treatment methods including nail topicals and pills. All methods may take up to one year to prove effective.

Treatments Include:

  • REMY Class IV Laser Treatment
  • Combination Creams
  • Shoe Antifungal Spray
  • Oral Antifungal Prescription Medications
  • Temporary or Permanent Nail Removal

Bacterial/Yeast Infections (Least Common)

Though uncommon some nail conditions are caused by bacteria or yeast colonization between the nail and the skin. Topical treatment is with a prescription cream or ointment.

Laser treatment may be the perfect option for you

Oh. So. Easy.

Laser therapy, also known as laser treatment or laser fungal nail therapy, is a relatively new and non-invasive option for treating toenail fungus (onychomycosis). While it may not be a first-line treatment and its effectiveness can vary from person to person, there are several potential benefits associated with laser therapy for toenail fungus:

Why laser nail treatment may be perfect for you:

  1. Non-Invasive: Laser therapy is a non-invasive treatment, meaning it does not require the use of medications that can have potential side effects or the need for surgery.
  2. Minimal Pain or Discomfort: The procedure is generally painless, with most patients experiencing only mild warmth or a tingling sensation during the treatment.
  3. Minimal Side Effects: Unlike some oral antifungal medications, laser therapy is not associated with the risk of liver or kidney damage, which can be a concern with long-term use of certain oral medications.
  4. Targeted Treatment: Laser therapy specifically targets the fungal infection in the toenail and surrounding tissue, minimizing damage to healthy tissue.
  5. Quick Treatment Sessions: Each treatment session is typically short, often lasting 15-30 minutes, depending on the size and severity of the affected area.
  6. No Downtime: There is usually no downtime or recovery period required after laser therapy, allowing patients to resume their normal activities immediately.
  7. Improved Appearance: Laser therapy may help drastically improve the appearance of the affected toenail(s) over time, making them look clearer and healthier.

Remember:

It is important to note that the effectiveness of laser therapy for toenail fungus can vary from person to person. Some individuals may experience significant improvement, while others may not respond as drastically to the treatment. Additionally, multiple treatment sessions are  required for the best results, each being one month apart. Even then, sometimes toenail fungus can sometimes recur after treatment.

Before considering laser therapy for toenail fungus we will schedule an initial consultation and perform a simple nail biopsy. This way we can evaluate the severity of your condition and discuss the most appropriate treatment options for your specific case, which may include topical antifungal medications, oral medications, or other treatments in addition to or instead of laser therapy. We look forward to meeting you soon and starting you down your path toward clear and healthy toenails.
