PROLOTHERAPY
Prolotherapy involves injecting a natural solution into injured soft tissue such as tendons or ligaments. Prolotherapy may also be used in the treatment of chronic joint problems in the foot and ankle. The injection stimulates a repair response of the injured area. Over time, the use of prolotherapy can strengthen the body’s damaged tissues and therefore reduce foot pain. Prolotherapy is considered to be a very safe procedure; it can be helpful in avoiding more invasive treatments such as surgery in certain situations. Please ask your SFAI podiatrist if PRP therapy may be right for you.
PLATELET RICH PLASMA
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy uses an injected concentration of the patient’s own blood to accelerate the healing process of foot pain, injured tendons, ligaments, muscles and joints. This allows the patient's own healing system to improve musculoskeletal pain. PRP injections are prepared by taking a sample of your own blood and cycling it through a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets. These platelets are then injected directly into your injured tissue, which activates growth factors to repair the damaged area. Ultrasound imaging is often used to make sure the injection is precisely delivered to the desired location. PRP can be helpful in treating a range of conditions in the foot and ankle, especially Achilles tendon and plantar fascia problems. Please ask your SFAI podiatrist if PRP therapy may be right for you.
